in their Glory
Art from the Heart; a Living Memory
I was working on this painting the day of 911. I added the flag in memory of those lost lives...this 16" x 20" painting of Mules "In their Glory" was accepted in into the prestigious AAEA show and the Midwest Horse Fair art show where it placed second.
In all my larger sized paintings I paint in a very small Cherub or Angel and then only reveal it to the person that purchases the painting.

Mom and Margret
The Heart of my Art
how I come about to develop some of my images
Over the years I have taken most of these images and made actual paintings. When I paint I don't have an exact finish in mind, it just evolves as it goes on, like the above two Mule painting "in their Glory", I started to do it as a portrait from a photo that I took, the day when 911 happened I changed the background adding the flag.
The painting here in this section was from a 4" x 4" black and white photo of my mother in Sarasota Florida at the Winter Grounds for the Ringling Brother Circus 1934. I have always wanted to paint that image but could not imagin the colors...This painting, a 16" x 20" acrylic, was started with only four colors, very loose in style this time(since I was painting for myself and no pressure.) Working first on the horse and then mom, then I came to the third layer, something inside of me told me to stop. I did and liked the look. The painting was accepted into AAEA for entry, also with the Mules and one other painting.
My Vision and Style
something that is being developed daily
This painting was done from a photograph a friend in Colorado took, she has Quarter Horses and some of the most beautiful headed ones. When I saw this photo, the first thing that came into my head was a Butterfly sitting on the fence and the foal who was actually resting his chin there was looking at the Butterfly wishing he could fly. This painting also is a 16" x 20" acrylic. At first my challenge was the fur, it had to look soft and real...I started with the muzzle and accidently smudged a spot so used my finger to wipe it, this made the muzzle look real and soft...the temptation to paint over was great, but I left it and moved on. I can tell you with all honesty that I can not remember painting this painting, because I had so many challenges and didn't know how to deal with them. When the painting was finished I looked at it and asked myself "how did you do that?" up to this day I don't know. I did pray a lot, I wanted this painting to be what I saw in my head.
It was displayed at a show for a month and when I went to pick up my 44 paintings I did not notice it missing until I went to another show to hang my art. It took me two years to find it, and by accident at that...someone had placed it inside behind one of my other framed paintings(they where stuck together) and it was there till I was changing frames...I will never let this painting go, it is meant for me to have. This image had been licensed out in the past for Garden Flags and other products, but now a product with this image can only be bought through me.
Painting in a different vain
using my fingers to paint
I started this acrylic 16" x 20" painting of a Friesian with an idea in mind, as I proceeded I realized quickly that I was not going to accomplish my goal. The image that you see here is the original version, the one now has a slight different background over the left side of the brickwork...but still looks the same. The horse is exactly how I wanted, floating in the air with power...I wanted stoplights coming from different directions for lighting. When I painted the horse I did not want to use any black (actually I never use black) so layered the colors of blues and browns, they made the black...here again I used my fingers to smudge in the paint, the last layer I used a brush to finish the details....

I have my art displayed on many websites and webpages. I joined a website called artwanted.com because I wanted feedback on some of my projects, besides it's always nice to hear what other people say and think of your artworks. The painting of the two Arabians is one of my favorites, it also had been made into Garden Flags at one time.
TROIKA
Morning Attack...
I have always loved painting Troikas, one of my favorite subjects, maybe because of my Grandfather living in St.Petersberg Russia for many years. When I moved to America from Germany, we lived in San Francisco in the Russian district, there in a garage was a painting of a wall at the far end, it was a Troika scene with three white horses, this painting is what started me to paint this subject.
The painting displayed here won first place at the Midwest Horse Fair and second place at another art show...including many Gallery displays.

I have always said that the world is made up of different people and different tastes...if we all liked the same things it would be a boring place. What one likes or dislikes is purely choice and should be respected.
So go ahead and let me know what YOU think of my artwork!
